As we sat around the dinner table the other night, Joe was flipping through the "What to Expect the First Year" book and jotting down the things we need to do to babyproof our house now that Parker is crawling and cruising and pulling electrical cords. She has an affinity for dangerous items including but not limited to matches, ice cream and beer bottles.
Joe came upon a section in the book called Games Babies Play, and he found a song recommended to help teach babies how to clap:
Clap hands, clap hands!
Till daddy comes home!
Because daddy has money and mommy has none!
That's a great lesson in clapping and a pretty stark suggestion that mommy's a loser, daddy doesn't share and if you want any good toys you better sit at the front door and start clapping for daddy. Let's make this clear, Parker: Mommy gets real paid at her job, and even if mommy was saintly enough to stay home, she would still GET HALF OF THE MONEY.
Joe had quite a lot of fun singing this song to Parker and getting me all stirred up. Parker is now able to clap, although her two limp hands flopping together don't make much noise, but that's good enough for me.
